Welcome To The Sutton Plough The Sutton Plough was originally called ‘The Plough and Horses’ way back in the 19th century. Sutton is a small village some 3 miles from Woodbridge. The pub is conveniently placed for residents of Woodbridge and for tourists visiting the many attractions that Suffolk has to offer.
The Plough underwent a complete refurbishment through June and July of 2010. It retains the classic features of a country pub – beams, open fire, good home cooked local produce – and is warm and welcoming. The pub has a large beer garden and welcomes families.
As the new owners of The Plough we have a clear vision of how we want the pub to be. Good, local produce with beer, cider and food at sensible prices that our customers will appreciate.
Woodbridge The town lies on the River Deben. Across the river is Sutton Hoo, the Saxon Royal burial ship. In fact, everywhere you look in Woodbridge you are reminded of times gone by. It is a town that has every right to be proud of its heritage. Many of the sites are open to the public and offer a real insight into the past.
Sutton Hoo is a site which is managed by the National Trust and is open to visitors and is only a couple of miles from The Plough.
The River Deben is the home to another of Woodbridge's claims to fame - the Woodbridge Tide Mill. This building is thought to be one of the earliest examples of a tide mill in the UK and dates from 1170. The mill has been restored and is now open to the public.
The idyllic countryside around Woodbridge is ideal for those who love walking and you are never far away from those beautiful riverside views. There are many walks that you may choose to follow; Daisy's Walk is near to Rendlesham Forest There are also two RSPB reserves nearby; one is RSPB Minsmere and the other is RSPB Havergate Island. Minsmere is one of the best places for Birdwatching in Suffolk
There is also the Walberswick Natonal Nature Reserve, one of the most diverse sites in the UK with unique groupings of habitation. These attractions are a Must!
